Daydream Your Way to Success

Want more success and prosperity in your life? You can have it. Read on.

One of the greatest secrets of success really isn’t a secret at all.  As a matter of fact most of us do it all day long, without even realizing it.  I’m talking about daydreaming.  Used on purpose, most of us call this activity visualization. It may sound too simple to be true, but daydreaming is powerful.  I know it works from my own experience, having used it all my life to rise from a simple floor sweeper to the President/CEO of a company with 8 million dollars a year in sales.

I’d like to tell you a story…

This is how I came to understand what daydreaming (visualization) was.  I was just 12 years old when I discovered it’s power.  I was standing outside of my local library, just a few minutes after the school bell rang. As I waited for my mother to pick me up, I stood there with what I’m sure must have been a dazed look on my face.  A friend of mine walked up to me and said, “Hey man, why do you always look like you are off in space?”  He took me by surprise because I was consumed in my thoughts.  I said, “I’ve just got a lot to think about.”  Then he said, “Well, come back down to earth.”  Good advice from an 11 year old.  But, he was right.  I was always off in space thinking about this or that, never really knowing that I was shaping my life.  Since my friend had so kindly brought this to my attention, though, it would have been a shame to not give it some thought.  Finally one day (some time later) I discovered a link between what I dwelled on during my daydreaming and what actually happened in my own life.  It was as if some huge mystery of the universe had been revealed to me: I had the power to control my own life with my thoughts. Most of what I daydreamed came true for me, and I still use daydreaming to shape my life today.

I saw with new eyes

At first, I thought that maybe I was seeing into the future. (Remember, I was just 12 years old and still believed I could be a superhero, somehow.)  Then, I decided to test the waters, so to speak, and directly took control of my own thoughts for a while. That’s when some amazing things started to happen for me. I dreamed of getting a new car and got one even when my father told me I would never get one.  I also daydreamed myself two new computers and lots of money in my pocket.  I dreamed of becoming stronger and more confident, and I was suddenly getting everything that I wanted.  My thoughts really were directing my life.

You can see with new eyes too

So how is it done?  Well, it’s not really hard at all, it doesn’t take much time or effort.  Most people would tell you to do it religiously day after day, but I’ve found that I get good results doing it just when I can.  You can daydream quite effectively while driving in the car, going for a walk, sitting around relaxing or even cutting the grass or taking care of the garden.  If you can’t seem to find any quiet time to yourself, then do it while you are taking a shower or using the can.

It’s easy, just do this. First, sit down and decide for yourself what you really want.  Maybe a new house? More money? Greater success? Then, decide what that looks like to you.  If it’s a new house, for example, find a picture of one that you like, or build it in your mind.  Then use that picture to daydream about what you want. Try your best to experience the full range of your senses.  How does it smell, feel or taste?  Are there any sounds that you may be hearing, or is it quite and peaceful?  Put yourself in the mood you might be in if you had what you are wanting.  Every little bit helps.  Don’t worry if you can just barely see it, though.  If you have a burning desire for it, then you’ll do just as well.  Do this a couple of times a day if you can. Daydream your way to the life you want!

I want to make a couple of things clear before ending this.  First off, contrary to some beliefs, if you sit around daydreaming all day, and don’t take any action, the road to success will be filled with potholes.  You have to also take action!

Secondly, this doesn’t replace the fact that God still does good works in our lives.  I do believe, because I am a Christian, that God has given us the ability to shape our lives, as He has stated in the Bible.  That’s why I believe it works.

Lastly, be open to receiving what you are daydreaming.  See it, believe it, and you’ll have it.
