3 Steps to Success

Those that consider themselves successful in these hard economic times have more than just luck on their side.  Many people would say that a successful person is just someone with a lot of money in the bank. That’s just not true.  A successful person is someone who has a clearly defined purpose in life and enjoys setting goals and doing what it takes to achieve them.

Most of us have moments of happiness and joy, but to live life to it’s fullest requires that we have a clearly defined purpose in life.  It’s been stated on this blog that if you want to have a purposeful life, you have to “produce something good”.  That’s what the most successful people do.  They work at producing something good for themselves and others.  They know that happiness doesn’t come from how much money they have in the bank, but only by how much good they produce in this world.  If they lose their job or their company closes it’s doors, they consider it an opportunity to do something even better.  Sure, they get upset about their misfortune.  There are few of us that wouldn’t.  The difference is, people who lead purposeful lives rebound from their misfortunes quickly. Whereas people that do not have a purposeful life, may never rise above their misfortunes at all.  Clearly, living a life filled with purpose has it’s benefits.

Also, successful people put their goals in writing.  It’s been proven that once a goal has been set, you have a 70% chance of achieving it.  Those are pretty good odds.  Especially considering that it’s also been proven that not having a clear goal means a you have a 70% chance of accomplishing nothing at all.  That doesn’t sound so good.  But this is why many people aren’t successful in life. They fail to set any goal at all and they never know the odds are stacked against them.  You can stack the odds in your favor by defining your goals and then writing them down.

Lastly, successful people follow through on their goals.  They take action.  Instead of just sitting around thinking about what they will do next or what bad position they may currently be in, they do something.  They see what they want in their mind, then they go after it.  I’m sure you have heard the slogan “Just do it.”   Well, successful people do just that. They are always “doing it,” so to speak.  A successful person can clearly see what he or she needs to do next and then takes the action needed to get it done.

Doing these three things will make you more successful in life.  However, only a few that read this may actually put what I said to good use.  If you are one of the few, and you want more success in your life, then live with purpose, write down your goals, and pursue them relentlessly.
